It was always jam-packed with house music lovers until at least 6am. I had the honor of playing for them twice, and this set was recorded live at my second appearance. Since the place was small and the dj booth was right on the dancefloor, you can hear people (and me) screaming through the needles, which I love.

This was also the night I met fellow deephouse.com dj Kevin O. He had a live singer performing with him during his set right before mine, so at the beginning of the mix, as we were swapping out connections, you can hear the crowd through her mic, and her unplanned saying “yeah!” right before I started my first record was serendipitous to say the least and really sets this mix apart.

The only bummer was the sound system was rigged for mono so the recording is in mono, not stereo. However, I was so happy with it, I decided to release it anyway. To this day, it’s one of my favorite sets.

There’s a bit of a story behind this mix.

One of my best friends, Shane, loved my Live In Detroit mix and then Mark Grant (one of my all-time favorite DJ/producers) came out with his Sound Design v2 mix on Om records and Shane said that Live In Detroit had been usurped. Inspired by Mark’s set and Shane’s challenge, I recorded this set.

With really long 3 turntable mixes, the end result is an interesting experiment for me, and many people have said they enjoyed it. Oh, and Shane did too, but he said Mark Grant’s mix was still his favorite since it came first. Heh.

This is the first 74 minutes of the set and is a San Francisco chuggy mix. Next to Live at Lush, this is my best-selling mix cd, and the party was a blast! This mix also features two of my absolute most favorite house tracks of all time, François K’s remix of “Tout Est Bleu” and Global Communication’s “The Way”.

This set was recorded at a little club on Nantucket called The Chicken Box. Only the first 45 minutes or so made it because the recording started clipping when I had to crank up the output and forgot to compensate on the recorder. Still, it’s a fun Chicago mix and was worth sharing even in abbreviated form. Enjoy!
